Why Lumnus Consulting?
Lumnus provides its members with a means to apply the critical thinking skills they learn in the classroom to real-world business situations. We facilitate the development of interpersonal and professional skills, as well as provide a strong support system to students. Lumnus prepares its members with the tools for a variety of industries and positions.
What does Lumnus Consulting look for in an applicant?
Lumnus Consulting is open to all majors and years. We look for students who have strong analytical skills, creativity in problem solving, and the ability to work cohesively in teams. But above all, Lumnus looks for students who commit to excellence in their work, dedication, and eagerness to learn.
What does the application process look like?
The Lumnus consultant application process consists of a written application and an interview. The written application will include your resume and an optional cover letter explaining your experiences and reasons for applying to Lumnus Consulting. An invitation for the first round of interviews is determined by your written application.
Before the first interview, you will be put into a group and given a case study to analyze. During the interview itself, you and your team will present the problem and reccomendations for the case study. The final round of interviews will be an individual interview for us to get to know you better and understand why you want to be a part of our organization.
What if I don’t want to do consulting?
Joining Lumnus does not require you to pursue a career in consulting. We have a diverse team consisting of engineers, economics, cognitive science majors, and more. Many of our members also have additional interests in investment banking, private equity, non-profit organizations, and politics. Lumnus strives to provide an environment that cultivates quantitative and qualitative skills amongst its members that can be applied to any sector. Through a variety of projects, our team gains a highly in-depth understanding of different client industries and business models.
How many new members does Lumnus take every quarter?
Lumnus was founded in 2016, but since then has expanded to a team of 30 students. For each recruitment season, we hand pick around 10 students. However, this number fluctuates from year to year, and we pride ourselves in maintaining a close team.
What does time commitment look like?
We often compare our consultants' workload to a standard 4-unit class. New members can expect to commit at least 5-8 hours a week to weekly team meetings, client meetings, individual research, team presentations, and new member workshops. Each client project is different, and the actual time commitment will be determined by team. However, we fully expect our members to make Lumnus' clients and projects a priority in their schedules.
Can I re-apply?
Of course. We highly encourage all students to reapply. Lumnus recruits in the fall and the spring, and we are always excited to see how students have grown and what new skills they can bring to the table. Our interviewers are always open to providing feedback during and after the recruitment process.
